Union Soldiers on the Viper Veterans Schedule: Ira Combs, Theophilus Asher Woods and Theo’s father-in-law, John Cornett (all of Company M, 14th Kentucky Regiment Volunteers) had enlisted the same year at Irvine, Estill County, Kentucky and all had mustered out of service on 24 March 1864 at Camp Nelson, Kentucky. ~ 30 June 1865: By the end of June all Confederate Prisoners of War had been released. They were given no money, no clothes, no shoes, no food and no transportation. While making their way back home, they had to avoid the Federal Troops at all cost. Many never made the journey home. Others arrived home a mere skeleton. Some survived and were blessed with more years with their family.

Roll of Prisoners of War at Point Lookout, Maryland: Combs, Kendrick, 10th KY CAV Co I, Captured in Perry County, Kentucky on 18 May 1863, Released On Oath 10 January 1864. In fear for his life, he traveled south, trying to make it home to Perry County. It was logical that he and another Perry County man, Robert C. Combs, who was released on oath the same day, made the dangerous trip together, with little to sustain them. Kendrick’s journey home ended in Jackson, Breathitt County, Kentucky.
DATE OF DEATH: 1 October 1864.
PLACE OF DEATH: Jackson, Breathitt County, Kentucky. He died trying to return home from the Maryland Union Prisoner of War Camp.
STATUS: Prisoner of War, who died on his journey home.

Kendrick’s journey home ended in Jackson, Breathitt County, Kentucky.
