EIGHT SONS OF ROWLAND SALMONS II (1799-1892) SERVED IN THE CIVIL WAR.

SONS OF ROWLAND SALMONS II AND EDNA OSBORNE, FIRST WIFE, WERE:
DAVID SALMONS, JAMES M. SALMONS, RANDOLPH “RANDAL” SALMONS, ROWLAND “BUD” SALMONS, JR., WILLIAM SALMONS AND THOMAS SALMONS.

SONS OF ROWLAND SALMONS II AND NANCY COX, SECOND WIFE, WERE:
JEREMIAH “JERRY” SAMMONS AND JOEL SAMMONS.

THE CIVIL WAR CREATED A TRAGEDY OF BROTHER AGAINST BROTHER AND FATHER AGAINST SON. A CONFEDERATE RAID ON ROWLAND SALMONS II’S FARM CREATED BITTERNESS, BECAUSE THE SOLDIERS KNEW EXACTLY WHERE TO FIND THE HIDDEN GOLD. THE FAMILY SUSPECTED THAT ONE OF THEIR OWN HAD REVEALED THE HIDING PLACE.

CONFEDERATE PRISONER OF WAR, ROWLAND “BUD” SALMONS, JR. WAS RELEASED FROM A UNION MILITARY PRISON AT WARS END. WHEN HE RETURNED HOME, IT WAS EVIDENT, THAT HE HAD BEEN STARVED UNTIL HE BECAME MERE SKIN AND BONE. HE WAS ACCUSED OF REVEALING THE HIDDEN LOCATION OF HIS FATHER’S FORTUNE TO CONFEDERATE RAIDERS AND SHUNNED BY HIS FAMILY.
