ENTERED SERVICE FROM: Kentucky. Grant and his future brother-in-law, William Riley Cornett, walked from Perry County to Jackson in Breathitt County, Kentucky to join the U. S. Army, because there were no railroads from Hazard to Jackson. People traveled by horse or waterways or on foot.
ENLISTMENT DATE: 26 July 1910 at Columbus Barracks in Ohio. Mustered Out on 17 or 19 September 1913 at Fort McDowell, California.
