FERGUSON, SAMUEL, SR. (1744 Ireland – 1825 Virginia), BATTLE OF ALAMANCE, BATTLE OF KING’S MOUNTAIN, AMERICAN REVOLUTIONARY WAR.
HOMETOWN:  Wayne County, Virginia – West Virginia.
OTHER RESIDENCE:  Ireland.  Augusta County, Virginia.  Bluestone Creek, Tazewell County, Virginia.
IMMIGRATED IN 1765:  Two British Soldiers, who were cousins, arrived in the American Colonies in 1765:  Samuel Ferguson and Patrick Ferguson, who designed the Ferguson Rifle.
DATE OF BIRTH:  3 March 1744 in Ireland.
PARENTS:  Catherine Burnett and Adam B. Ferguson.
COUSIN:  British Army Major Patrick Ferguson, Light Company, 70th Regiment of Foot, who was killed 7 October 1780, at the Battle of King’s Mountain in the American Revolutionary War.
SPOUSE:  Mary Jameson.
FIRST SERVICE:  British Army Soldier.
SECOND SERVICE:  Virginia Militia, American Colony.
ENTERED SERVICE FROM:  Virginia Colony.
RANK:  Ensign.
BRANCH OF SERVICE:  Army.
COMBAT ORGANIZATION:  Captain Love’s Company, Captain James Moore’s Company, Montgomery County, Virginia Militia.
BATTLE:  16 May 1771, The Battle of Alamance, served with Captain James Moore and Peerys.
30 SEPTEMBER 1777:  Swore Allegiance to the United States Colonies.
BATTLE:  7 October 1780, The Battle of King’s Mountain, South Carolina, Montgomery County, Virginia Militia.
APPOINTED ENSIGN, 3 APRIL 1781:  Appointed Ensign in Captain James Moore’s Company of Montgomery County, Virginia Militia.
DATE OF DEATH:  12 February 1825 in Cabell County, later Wayne County, Virginia, now Wayne County, West Virginia.
BURIAL:  Yes, Place of burial, Currently Unidentified.
MEMORIALIZED:  Memorial Headstone on land belonging to Mary and Samuel.

WAR DEPARTMENT CERTIFICATE LAND WARRENT FOR SERVICE IN WAR OF 1812:  “21 December 1819, Thomas F. Napper, Corporal in the company commanded by Captain B. Johnson of the 2nd Regiment, United States Riflemen is entitled to 160 acres of land.”
3 JULY 1860, WAYNE COUNTY, VIRGINIA CENSUS :  Listed on the 1860 Census, Thomas F. Napier, age 81, Teacher of Common School, born Virginia.
DATE OF DEATH:  9 November 1860.
